these look similar to Russian twists, are they the same thing but a different name or an entirely different move?

I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing

Exact same thing, Mason twist was named for P90X after the director of the video Mason Bendewald.  Tony has named moves after people he knows (Fifer scissors (Scott Fifer).  Russian twists have been around longer then P90X but people who do P90X know the move from ab ripper X as Mason Twist.
